How do I take an in-kind distribution from Texas Precious Metals Depository?
An in-kind distribution allows you to remove precious metals from your IRA without selling them. As part of the request, you will choose whether the metals are transferred to a personal storage account at Texas Precious Metals Depository (TPMD) or shipped directly to you.
Submit a distribution request
Complete the IRA Distribution Request form and select your delivery method. After STRATA receives your request, we will:

Verify your contact information on file

Collect the in-kind processing fee (see your STRATA Fee Schedule)

Provide your distribution instructions to Texas Precious Metals Depository for processing
Delivery options
The delivery options available are:

Transfer to a personal storage account
If you choose to store the metals in your personal account at TPMD, the depository will move the metals accordingly.

Ship metals to you
If you choose physical delivery:

TPMD will calculate shipping fees and contact you by phone within 2–3 business days to collect payment by credit card

Once the shipping label is created, you will receive tracking information from UPS

An adult signature (18+) is required upon delivery

Important Information
- Updates: If you have any questions or concerns regarding your package after you receive your email from UPS, please reach out to TPMD at TexasDepository.com or (361) 594-3624.
- Claims: You must contact STRATA within 7 days of receipt of your precious metals to dispute or report any claims on the shipment.
- Verification: If your contact information does not match our records, processing may be delayed while we verify your identity. Submit an Information Change Request - IRA Account form before requesting the distribution if updates are needed.
Tax reporting
STRATA reports all IRA distributions to the IRS.
You will receive Form 1099-R by January 31 of the year following the distribution.
The value reported reflects the fair market value of the metals on the date the distribution was processed by TPMD.
