# How do I take an in-kind distribution from Texas Precious Metals Depository?
An in-kind distribution allows you to remove precious metals from your IRA without selling them. As part of the request, you will choose whether the metals are transferred to a personal storage account at Texas Precious Metals Depository (TPMD) or shipped directly to you.

### **Submit a distribution request**
Complete the [IRA Distribution Request](https://www.stratatrust.com/resources/forms/ira-distribution-request) form and select your delivery method. After STRATA receives your request, we will:
- Verify your contact information on file
- Collect the in-kind processing fee (see your STRATA [Fee Schedule](https://www.stratatrust.com/resource-center/fees/))
- Provide your distribution instructions to Texas Precious Metals Depository for processing

### **Delivery options**
The delivery options available are in-person pickup, personal storage account, or shipping:
**1. In-person pickup**
In-person pickups are coordinated between STRATA and the approved depository. To request an in-person pickup, provide the following information on your distribution request:
- Vehicle year, make, model, color, and license plate number
- A copy of your driver's license
- A copy of the driver's license for one additional guest, if applicable (a maximum of one guest is permitted)
**After STRATA submits your information to the depository, the depository will contact you directly to schedule your pickup appointment.**
⚠️If you will be using a rental vehicle, you may still request an in-person pickup. Please provide the rental vehicle information to STRATA as soon as it becomes available so we can share it with the depository before your scheduled appointment.
Additional identification and security requirements may be imposed by the depository at the time of pickup.
**2. Transfer to a personal storage account**
You may move the metals to your personal storage account at TPMD. *You must provide your TPMD personal storage account number.*
- If you do not have a personal storage account set up connect with [TPMD](https://texasdepository.com/pricing) to establish the account *before* submitting your distribution request. You may contact TPMD at 361-594-3624 for questions.
Estimated processing time: up to 5 business days
**3. Ship metals to you**
If you choose physical delivery:
- - TPMD will calculate shipping fees and contact you by phone within 2–3 business days to collect payment by credit card
- Once the shipping label is created, you will receive tracking information from FedEx
- An adult signature (18+) is required upon delivery
- Delivery times may vary during peak shipping periods
**Important Information**
- **Tracking:** To track your shipment and receive delivery notifications, TPMD recommends enrolling in [FedEx Delivery Manager®](https://www.fedex.com/en-us/delivery-manager.html), a free service that provides real-time updates, delivery alerts, and delivery scheduling options. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your package *after you receive your email from FedEx*, please reach out to TPMD at [TexasDepository.com](https://www.texasdepository.com/) or [(361) 594-3624](tel:+13615943624).
- **Claims**: You must **contact STRATA within 7 days of receipt** of your precious metals to dispute or report any claims on the shipment.
- **Verification:** If your contact information does not match our records, processing may be delayed while we verify your identity. Submit an [Information Change Request - IRA Account](https://www.stratatrust.com/resources/forms/information-change-request-ira-account) form before requesting the distribution if updates are needed.

### **Tax reporting**
STRATA reports all IRA distributions to the IRS.
You will receive **Form 1099-R by January 31** of the year following the distribution.
The value reported reflects the fair market value of the metals on the date the distribution was processed by TPMD.
