# How do I fund an investment?
To fund an investment within your self-directed account, you must submit the required documentation to STRATA before funds are released.
*Ensure your account has sufficient available cash before submitting the request.* If you have not yet funded your account, visit the [Fund Your Account](https://www.stratatrust.com/resource-center/investment-hub/fund-your-account/) page to learn how to transfer, roll over, or contribute funds.
### Submit direction instructions
Because self-directed investment options vary (real estate, private placements, promissory notes, precious metals, etc.), STRATA provides investment-specific checklists that outline:
- Required investment paperwork
- Supporting documents
- Titling requirements
- Funding instructions
