Learn why deposits by check may be subject to a temporary hold and how you can use ACH or wire transfers to access your funds faster.
Why funds may be placed on hold
When you make a deposit to your STRATA account, our goal is to ensure your funds are safely processed and available for your use as quickly as possible. Under STRATA’s Custodial Agreement, we may place a clearing/hold period of up to seven (7) business days on deposits made by check. This extra time allows us to confirm that the check clears before making the funds available for:
-
Directing a new investment
-
Processing a withdrawal
This process helps protect both you and STRATA from potential risks associated with check deposits.
When holds are applied
Funds on hold are not automatic. STRATA applies this policy on a case-by-case basis, depending on the transaction request circumstances and perceived fraud risk. In most cases, deposits are available sooner.
If a hold is placed on funds, STRATA will contact you directly by email to let you know and provide details about when your funds are expected to be available.
What this means for you
-
If a hold is placed, your funds may not be immediately available for transactions.
-
The maximum clearing period is seven (7) business days.
-
You can avoid holds by submitting funds via ACH or wire transfer, which are generally available more quickly than check deposits.
