How is STRATA insured or bonded?

At STRATA, we work to ensure that the highest standards for safety and soundness are met. STRATA is a Texas-chartered trust company regulated by the Texas Department of Banking, which has long set the benchmark among state banking regulators. Strict controls are in place to ensure the safety of uninvested cash, and independent auditors are retained to conduct regular audits of our operations.

As a subsidiary of Horizon Bank, STRATA maintains a comprehensive insurance package, including financial institution bond policy, professional fiduciary liability insurance, directors’ and officers’ liability insurance, and cybersecurity coverage through underwriters rated A++ (superior) by A.M. Best. This provides coverage in the unlikely event of an error or employee dishonesty by STRATA. While clients have the freedom to choose and oversee their investments, they also carry the responsibility for their investment outcomes and to conduct thorough due diligence on both the investment and the sponsor they choose to work with.

How does STRATA keep my clients’ information safe?

In addition to maintaining a comprehensive data recovery plan, including business continuity services and daily backup of data at a secure offsite facility, STRATA has strict policies in place to ensure the security of our clients’ records.

STRATA is committed to maintaining the highest level of integrity in our industry and has designed our business practices to protect our clients. Keeping clients’ personal data and account information secure is a top priority. To guard against unauthorized access to your client accounts and to keep your clients' personal information safe, we:

  • Protect your clients' personal information behind firewalls and encryption technology.
  • Do not sell your clients’ personal information to anyone.
  • Go beyond login ID and password authentication by using multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  • Use advanced encryption technology to allow you and your clients to safely communicate with STRATA using secure email.
  • Continually train our employees to be vigilant when handling personal and financial information.

How does STRATA differ from other IRA service providers?

As a regulated financial institution, STRATA’s operations are regularly examined for safety and soundness by state banking regulators in the same way that banks are. As a trusted advisor to your clients, it’s important to know the regulatory environment of the different IRA service providers in the marketplace because not all are regulated.

When it comes to your clients’ security and protection, not all IRA service providers are created equal. It’s important for a custodian to have control of clients’ cash and assets. By recommending an IRA custodian for the custody of your clients’ assets, you will have peace of mind in knowing STRATA has solid internal controls, policies, and procedures in place for custodial deposits and assets, including:

  • Opening your clients’ accounts
  • Depositing of funds
  • Processing investment transactions
  • Ensuring assets are properly titled
  • Fulfilling IRS reporting requirements, and
  • Issuing periodic statements of account activity
